Default Noise from AMC model 20 rear end

Let me run this by you guys.

In September, I took my Javelin to the Nelson show. My buddy from Vancouver drove it back and he said when he got on the car hard to merge into traffic, the rear end made a funny noise so he let off.

I couldn't get the car to make the noise until sunday night when, coming off the highway onto my road I got on it hard. Just as it hit the 1-2 shift the rear end let out what I can only describe as a metallic moan. Like when metal rubs together or the screen door needs some oil.

Now, this rear end was rebuilt 3 or 4 years ago. The Twin-Grip unit was rebuilt by Nelson Chrysler, and the rest of it done by Irwin Dodds at Castlegar Brake & Muffler. I did the final assembly myself (installed axles, torqued on the hubs, etc.)

The only thing I can think of is that since I was young and foolish, I didn't mark or match the hubs to the correct axle (two-piece axle). So I think I may have broken the keyway and spun a hub, yet when I jack up the car and try to see if I can feel anything, both wheels feel like the hub is nice and tight.

Could it have been the posi clutches making noise?? The car has sat for extended periods of time. Any ideas on what else it could possibly be?

If its construction is the common spring loaded clutch type posi, I would have thought you would hear something while just going around a corner if it that was the problem.

I guess it's not easy to open it up and have a look around..

I had the cover off last summer for its scheduled diff oil change. No particles in the oil whatsoever. And it's actually a clutch-type posi.
