Default Small block chevy 400 casting numbers

I'm still looking for a running 400 small block, and so you good folks can help me look here are the casting numbers:

400 sbc:
1970-73 3951511
1970-80 3951509
1973-76 3030817
1973-80 330817

A few pics:

Note the bulges for clearance of the larger cylinders.

Many, but not all 400 blocks have a third frost plug. Note the steam holes in the deck required because the bores are cast together with no water jacket between. The casting number is on the bell housing, as shown on the right.

400 small block balancers are the only ones with a cut out section on the outer ring.

so if you spot one of these bad boys, let me know! I really only need the short block, but something I can run for a while before rebuilding it would be best.

Thanks!

if you happen to be one of the lucky ones to find a 400 block with 3 frost plugs, i've been told by many, it is a 4 bolt main block. rare and desirable to some people, but those in the know, say although it is a 4 bolt main, it is weaker than the 2 blolt varitey. FYI

I talked to a guy who has a 4 bolt 400 he said he'd sell... now the bad news. He traded about $500 worth of stuff for it so hes looking for about that much cash to let it go. Hes up by Edmonton so its not something we could just pop by and see but i will be going thru there later next month if you havent found one by then.

Yesterday I posted an add in the classified section for a fuel injected sb400. It hasn't appeared in the "latest classified" header yet so I thought I would let you know
