6th Annual Mopars in the Mountains Car Show

The 6th Annual Mopars in the Mountains – the show will go on!:hurray:

Long time organizers of Mopars in the Mountains Car Show Mike and Donna Stanko, said in January of this year that the ever-popular classic car show would not be going ahead unless new volunteers came forward. The Kootenay Child Development Centre has come forward and will now take the steps to ensure that the “Show Will Go On.”
The Kootenay Child Development Centre team saw taking over the Mopars Car Show as a wonderful opportunity for an annual fundraiser for the Centre that would help raise funds to enhance their programs and services.

This year the team has added a few new details such as an extra Drive In Movie Night and is offering businesses the opportunity to set up booths at the event. As well they are working with the downtown business association to offer participants a cruise of their cars downtown and a bbq during Friday night’s registration, which this year will take place at the Kootenay Child Development Centre.

Admission to the car show will be by donation. The Drive In Movie Night will be $5 per person or $20 per car load. The cost to participate in the Car Show will be $20 and to be part of the “Junk in Your Trunk Swap Meet” on Friday night, the registration cost is $10. For additional details about the event, please visit the website at www.moparsinthemountains.com.

Sponsors for the event are already lining up to support Mopars such as Cranbrook Dodge, A&W, Teck, Econo Lodge, Brandt Tractor, Rocky Mountain Diesel, Lube-X, Giant Tiger, McDonald’s Restaurant, Lordo Auto Parts, East Kootenay Realty Insurance and Napa Auto Parts. Other businesses looking to offer support can contact Patricia at 250-426-2542.

The vision of the Kootenay Child Development project is the creation of a hub of co-located health and development services for children from birth to 19 years that will be in a central location and easily accessible. Services include Pediatricians, Infant Development program, Supported Child Development program, Interior Health Children’s Assessment Network, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, East Kootenay Child Care Resource and Referral, Children First, and Kids Connection Preschool. The new Centre also houses a large boardroom with telehealth video conferencing capability, that will help reduce the amount of travel many families currently face when having to take trips out of our region to access these services. To date the fundraising committee has raised over 1 million dollars, just shy of their 1.1 million dollar goal.

In past years, cars shown at Mopars in the Mountains have hailed from Washington, Idaho, Montana, East and West Kootenays, and Southern Alberta. There will be a fantastic variety of vehicles so be sure to bring your camera as you walk down memory lane.

There will be great food (this year’s concession will be run by the Cranbrook Bugle Band), great music and great people to help make your experience a great one! The Mopars in the Mountains has become a tradition in the East Kootenay and the Kootenay Child Development Centre fundraising team is happy to be able to carry on the tradition.

There are many participant benefits - each vehicle owner will have the opportunity to win prizes, trophies and cash awards. Don’t forget to pre-register online to get your name in the early bird draw.

To be successful the Mopars in the Mountains requires a coalition of partners; sponsors, vendors and above all the public. Come out July 20th and 21st to show your support. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Kootenay Child Development Centre.
